Week 42 Big Changes

Wednesday, June 20, 2018

Dear Mom,

This past week was weird knowing that it was the last week that Elder Christensen and I were together after almost 5 months. Also, with the fact that the big mission change is coming up with this next transfer.
Tuesday we had our morning and afternoon appointments fall through and we weren't able to visit anyone. We had lunch with Brother Juan Cardenas at Cici's pizza buffet which was pretty good. Then we had a lesson with one of our investigators and tried to visit a referral from a member but they weren't there. We had another lesson that evening which was alright and everything else didn't work out.
Wednesday I did my first baptismal interview. It was for an investigator of the Sister Missionaries in our district. Their investigator was awesome and was definitely prepared for baptism. She had a wonderful strong testimony of her own. We then had District Meeting and we watched President Nelson's Conference talk as a part of our meeting. We started exchanges with the Oak Grove Elders after District meeting and Elder Dugmore and I were able to meet a lot of people. We met this one dude and Elder Dugmore did a one on one basketball game with him in a trailer park and it was awesome. We also were able to talk to a lot of people in the hood working on their cars. Some said they would came ball with us at the church. Then that night we all 4 met at Mugshots and had really good burgers for dinner.
Thursday, we had one good lesson with our main investigator who is progressing well towards baptism and then we went to Columbia and had dinner with the Zelayas at their restaurant and I had Golden Fried Catfish. I love eating at their restaurant; they have such good food and they are fun.
Friday morning we had a good lesson with one of our new investigators and she is awesome. Such a nice lady and loves talking about the Gospel. We then came back home and had apartment inspections. They were proud of our fridge because of how clean it was . . .I haven't cleaned our fridge since we first got here 3 transfers ago. I cleaned it really good at first and we just keep it clean. Apparently it was just a good contrast from the others they had seen that day. Glad that they were proud of our clean apartment though :) We then got Smoothie King for lunch and did our weekly planning. Most people we tried visiting weren't available. We then went to have dinner with the Cardenas family in Sumrall. We had a southern style type of boil. There was sausage and mushrooms and potatoes and corn, etc. . . it was really good.
Saturday morning we did some service for one of our investigators and cleared a bunch of brush and trees from her back yard. We spent a good couple of hours on it. You know someone trusts you when they leave you to work on their back yard while they're gone and leave their back door unlocked for you to get water and "whatever is mine is yours". She is an awesome lady and I really enjoyed doing some hard work service for her. We then washed our car and cleaned it and got Taco Bell for lunch. We tried a lot of potential investigators and then went to the baptism from the Sister that evening. Then we went to Columbia and had dinner with some less active members. We got there and the husband's younger brother was there, but they had left to go shopping for a bit. We still had the dinner appointment and they were gonna be back soon so we chilled with the brother. We talked with him a bit, he was watching a Spanish TV show kinda like wipe out and so we worked on our Spanish as President has advised us to use those circumstances to help us in any way we can. After dinner with them we gave their baby a blessing cuz she was sick and then their little boy a blessing as well. It was a little difficult with the baby cuz she kept moving around, but the little boy was screaming and crying and in a lot of pain and it was the most peculiar blessing we have ever given. But as we gave the blessing he finally started calming down and just kinda quietly cried. We were happy to be there to help their family.
Sunday, sadly all our investigators out of the very many we invited, were not able to come to church. Nonetheless it was a great Father's Day. We tried visiting a number of people but they didn't answer. Some we knocked on their door and then 3 cars pulled up and all of them got out and we talked to them but they didn't want to talk cuz they just got back from church. No one likes us visiting them on Sunday cuz they "just went to church".
Monday we were able to visit a few people and we had another good lesson with our investigator who is progressing towards baptism. Then that night we drove up to Laurel and had dinner with an investigator. He is awesome and loves us teaching him English.
Tuesday we had District Meeting again and it was the last one for Sister Lamb and Elder Dugmore. They are going home tomorrow. Sad to say goodbye, they were awesome. After District Meeting, we met with Tanner and a recent convert, Zach (who I had met at Walmart which led to his baptism) and we got Baskin Robins together. Then the rest of our day was full of trying to visit people and having no luck.
It was a good last week of the transfer and this morning we found out that Elder Christensen is leaving to Dallas and I am staying here to be in the Louisana Baton Rouge Mission. It is sad to say bye to Elder Christensen for good as he goes to another mission after we have been together for so long. But it will also be nice to have some change again. I don't know what this next transfer will bring as we change missions but I am sure it will be crazy! Until next week!

Love,
Elder Acton
